ST. LUCIA'S SYMBOLS OF NATIONHOOD

SILVERTORCH THE ST. LUCIA FLAG

ITS MEANING

The colors of the flag are blue, white, black and gold. The flag is constructed of triangles, the golden triangle being central.
Cerulean Blue, which reflects the tropical sky and the surrounding waters, stands for fidelity. Gold represents the prevailing sunshine and also prosperity. Black and white represent the cultural influences - two races living and working in unity. The Negro culture is represented as dominant. The triangles represent the pitons, including the island’s famous twin Pitons at Soufriere, rising sheer out of the sea, and are a  symbol of the hope and aspirations of the people.

The designer of the flag was Saint Lucian artist, Dunstan St. Omer.

ST. LUCIA'S NATIONAL ANTHEM

NOTES

Sons and daughters of St. Lucia,
Love the land that gave us birth,
Land of beaches, hills and valleys,
Fairest isle of all the earth.
Wheresoever you may roam,
Love, oh love your island home.

Gone the times when nations battled
For this "Helen of the West",
Gone the days when strife and discord
Dimmed her children's toil and rest.
Dawns at last a brighter day,
Stretches out a glad new way.

May the good Lord bless our island,
Guard her sons from woe and harm!
May our people live united,
Strong in soul and strong in arm!
Justice, Truth and Charity,
Our ideal for ever be!

Lyrics By: Charles Jesse

Music By: Leton Felix Thomas

The anthem was adopted in 1967 when St. Lucia became self-governing. Upon independence in 1979, it was confirmed.
